Meeting 2 and beyond

For quite some time, I have been looking forward to write down my impression of the atmosphere here, that is to say, in my supervisor’s (will call him prof from now on) laboratory during the weekly meetings. Well, here it is…

These weekly meetings are usually held in the lab, where about 15 of us – Masters and PhD students – including the prof sit around a table and tell/discuss with prof all the work we have done the previous week. The first meeting we had was to tell us new folks about the meetings, and as such is inconsequential. The second meeting is where my imagination soared, hence the title …

The setting is pretty much like one of the discussion forums that we see in a martial arts movie. There are similar characters and the language sounds pretty much the same too. The prof is the leading man with plenty of experience and leads the discussion forward. He speaks with deliberation and puts to rest all doubts that arise in the course of the discussion. Next we have the sidekick – he is a simple soul and looks like a fool … a big round head with short cropped hair and beady eyes reminiscent of our distant ancestors …

There is the quiet and intelligent but non-action man who understands the hero to the hilt but says little or nothing, and even when he does, it is hard to discern! There is a sidekick from the other side who keeps smiling away and more often than not, appears embarrassed to find himself in these surroundings! Add to this, a couple of female interests for the viewer who look around dreamily during the episode – more out of sleep than love – and the stuttering but ambitious Wanna-Be and you have the complete picture …

This is the general setting once a week … but has now moved on from being an entertainer to a bore – maybe they’ll add a dash of spice to it!!!
